Who likes Brussels sprouts? NOBODY! So here goes my try on making them more likeable. Named after my beloved country, I can't let them go on with such a horrible reputation. Give in to this easy recipe and you'll get the know these sprouts on a whole new level. The most dreaded vegetable for kids (and adults), made into a delicious meal with the help of only a few other ingredients.
Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Pecan Nuts
Ingredients ~ 4 servings
500g Brussels sprouts
200g bacon strips
70g pecan nuts, chopped
parmesan shavings
balsamic vinegar glaze
Method
Clean the Brussels sprouts by cutting off the white bottom part. Bring water to boil in a big pot. Add the Brussels sprouts and boil for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, fry the bacon in a large frying pan. Drain the Brussels sprouts and add them to the frying pan. Fry on medium heat for 2 minutes. Lastly add the pecan nuts in as well and fry for another minute.
Transfer to bowls, sprinkle with parmesan shavings and drizzle the balsamic vinegar glaze on top.
ENJOY!
Wine pairing
This is a very salty and fat dish. A wine with lots of tannins, such as a Cabernet Sauvignon, will be a perfect fit. If you prefer white, Sauvignon Blanc can work very well too, it will complement the fattiness, and its high acidity will make sure to not let it fall flat next to the balsamic vinegar flavour.
